Biografia

La band originariamente si formata nel 1995 con il nome di Apocalyps, realizzando prevalentemente composizioni di carattere Doom Metal. Con l'unione della voce femminile di Floor Jansen nel 1997, lo stile della band subì una svolta verso il genere Gothic.

Nel 1999 la band inizia a comporre brani propri e registrati in due demo intitolati Ephemeral e Winds of Illusion che catturarono l'attenzione dell'etichetta discografica Transmission Records, con la quale la band sigla un contratto.

L'album di debutto della band, Prison of Desire, viene registrato nel 2000, con la partecipazione speciale di Sharon den Adel. L'album ottenne un significativo successo in Europa. Per la fine dell'anno, il batterista André Borgman ed il tastierista Lando van Gils si unirono alla band, in sostituzione di Joep Backers e Jack Driessen.

Nel 2001 esce l'album Decipher. Floor Jansen fu invitata a cantare come ospite in Ayreon, un progetto di Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Nel 2002 Mark Jansen abbandona la band per fondare un nuovo progetto, is Sahara Dust, futuri Epica. A fronte della perdita del principale compositore, gli After Forever verso la fine del 2003 si cimentano in un EP Exordium, prima di rilasciare Invisible Circle.

Pochi mesi dopo, nel 2004, il concept album Invisible Circles e` rilasciato sempre per Transmission Records: l'album raggiunge il 26° posto nella classifica top 100 olandese.

Nel Settembre 2005, la band rilascia Remagine ultimo lavoro pubblicato per Transmission Records. Lando van Gils lasciò la band e fu rimpiazzato da Joost van den Broek nello stesso anno. Il disco presenta diverse divagazioni musicali che allontanano il gruppo dal loro sound originale e anche da parte del loro gruppo di fan. Segue un tour che per la prima volta tocca anche l'Italia.

Il 3 marzo, 2006 la band abbandona l'etichetta Transmission Record, a causa della scarsa promozione che l'etichetta riusciva ad organizzare per la band stessa. durante la fase di songwriting del nasciaturo After Forever, il gruppo trova un contratto discografico presso la Nuclear Blast.

After Forever, il nuovo disco, e` uscito il 20 aprile 2007.

Brutte notizie in casa After Forver:
Sander Gommans Sta di nuovo male

Ecco quello che ha scritto sul my space:

Hi everybody,

Last Friday, on my way to a gig in the Czech Republic, I had a seizure attack in the airplane. No one knows exactly what it was at this point, but it was similar to an epileptic attack and was very scary.

After that, I was taken to an Austrian hospital where I stayed for one day. They did some research and told me to go to the hospital in Holland for more tests to find out exactly what the cause of the episode was.
I'm back in Holland now, and I'll keep you updated about my condition as soon as I know more.
Since I'm aware of the fact it could be related to my recent burn out, and the doctors confirmed this, I have to take absolute rest the upcoming period.
That means I will not be able to do the gig scheduled for this coming Friday in Hengelo.

Of course, I feel really frustrated, but let's hope I have more information soon.

Si è sentito male per il volo verso l australia,e ha avuto in aereo un attico simile a un attacco epilettico
Ora è di nuovo in Olanda per accertamenti e i prossimi show saranno senza di lui.

Le cose sembrano non migliorare purtroppo... ecco il messaggio che la band ha lasciato per i propri fans

Dear fans,


as you might have noticed, After Forever experienced a lot in 2007.

A new deal with Nuclear Blast and The Entertainment Group, the release of a new album, gigs in Europe and the U.S.A./Canada, all thanks to your support.


Unfortunately, 2007 also had a negative side. Sander experienced the symtoms of a burn-out and had to stop playing with After Forever for a few months.

After Forever did a good job doing the scheduled gigs with mainly George (ex- Orphanage) as grunter, making possible the album could still be promoted.

After that, a European and an American/Canadian tour followed, with Sander this time, and his condition seemed to be ok.


Unfortunately, just recently, Sander fell victim to a seizure attack in an airplane, and after research that attack seemed to be stress related.

The doctors think this is a very serious matter, and they strongly advised him to not be involved with any After Forever activity for at least a year, to prevent a worse health situation.


Because Sander is one of the formers, songwriter and co manager of After Forever, an After Forever without him is no option.

The band has been able to solve his absence in 2007 live, but another year full of compromises would not be positive for the quality After Forever wants to offer. After Forever is a band that wants to give 100% and that's just not possible now.


With pain in our hearts, we had to decide that After Forever has to take a break of at least a year and hope you will all respect that.

It's terrible not to be able to do all the great gigs and activities we were planning, but it's even worse for After Forever to do those things with a compromise.

We highly value everything the band has achieved, and we don't want to lose that.

We also realise we ask a lot of our fans since we know what our gigs and music means to them.


However, we will all still be active in the music scene. Because of this break everybody gets the chance to focus on projects.

On our site and myspace sites we'll keep you updated about those projects.


Not a very good start of the year, but thanks a lot for all your support and understanding, for now, for the future, but also for the past year.

We won't forget you and hope to meet you again if After Forever returns in full shape!!!

In pratica visto gli ultimi incidenti, gli hanno consigliato almeno un anno di riposo, ed essendo lui un membro fondamentale, gli After Forever prenderanno un anno di pausa... che tristezza... prima Simone e adesso anche Sander e gli After Forever... ma che sta succedendo???

Carissimi fan,

Dopo quasi 15 anni e con un peso sul cuore, abbiamo deciso di porre fine al fantastico ed entusiasmante tempo che abbiamo trascorso come After Forever.

Siamo molto orgogliosi dei traguardi che abbiamo raggiunto, ed in particolare della strada percorsa per giungervi.
Gli After Forever non sono mai stati una band che si ripeteva: abbiamo sempre provato nuove cose, sebbene molte fossero sicuramente fatte a nostro rischio. Pensiamo che sia stata questa una delle ragioni per le quali abbiamo sempre ricevuto un grandissimo supporto dai nostri fan più fedeli.

La pausa che ci siamo presi nel 2008 ci ha fatto apprezzare ancora di più queste nostre esperienze. Ora più che mai, possiamo guardare indietro e vedere così tanti momenti fantastici, qualcosa che non ci saremmo mai sognati quando abbiamo iniziato con la band tanti anni fa.

Ma comunque, la pausa ci ha resi consapevoli del fatto che potremmo continuare con gli After Forever solo con l'energia, tutto il 110%, che ci abbiamo sempre messo, ma abbiamo notato che ultimamente c'era qualcosa che mancava.


Siamo sempre stati musicisti che fanno musica con moltissima passione, e durante la pausa ci siamo occupati di nuovo delle nostre vite private e siamo stati musicamente attivi, sperimentando in molti generi diversi.

Nonostante gli After Forever siano molto speciali per noi, sentiamo di essere arrivati ad un punto nel quale abbiamo bisogno di esplorare il mondo della musica seguendo ognuno la nostra strada personale.
Per questo, abbiamo deciso di fermarci finché siamo in tempo.

Siamo sinceramente orgogliosi di ogni CD: ogni album rappresenta un periodo unico, e sono tutti compresi nel nostro ultimo album "After Forever," che ha fatto avverare tutti i nostri sogni.

Speriamo che gli After Forever continuino ad essere una fonte di ispirazione sia per le nuove bend che per i nuovi musicisti, in modo che la nostra musica possa continuare a vivere.

Come membri della band, ma anche come amici, abbiamo vissuto così tante esperienze: alti e bassi, momenti belli e brutti. Continueremo a supportarci reciprocamente nei nostri rispettivi progetti e ad ispirarci reciprocamente nel fare musica.

Potete essere sicuri che non è una decisione facile per nessuno di noi. Vorremmo ringraziare tutti i nostri fan per il loro sostegno, anche durante la pausa.

Sappiamo che sarà un grosso dispiacere per voi, cari fan, e ciò non fa altro che rendere la decisione più difficile per noi. Ci avete sempre dato tutto, ed era una nostra promessa, in cambio, di dare a voi almeno altrettanto fintanto che fossimo esistiti. In questo momento, purtroppo ciò non è ossibile. Così, preferiamo lasciarvi tutti gli album e i cncerti che abbiamo creato mentre eravamo al massimo.

Vorremmo anche ringraziare la Nuclear Blast, la TEG e la MOJO per la loro pazienza ed entusiasmo, il live crew, il fan club, i fan site e tutti coloro che ci hanno aiutati in ogni modo possibile.
